When the Community Shows Up
If you’re planning a stay in the Fleurieu, you want to know you’re in safe hands.
Yesterday proved exactly that.
What Happened
Bushfire threatened Currency Creek and surrounding area’s in our region, including about 160 of our precious livestock at Tooperang.
Near 100 CFS trucks from brigades across the region and state responded. The Currency Creek CFS, alongside brave volunteer CFS crews from every corner of South Australia, as well as skilled aerial bomber pilots, MFS crews, SAPOL, SA Ambulance and other emergency services personnel worked together yesterday, today and will continue for the coming days and nights to protect our community, our livestock, and the properties we call home.
The response was fast, coordinated, and effective. Our animals are safe. The properties are protected.
Why This Matters to You
When you stay at Merilli1885, you’re not just booking accommodation. You’re staying in a community with world-class emergency response systems and volunteers who know this land intimately.
My husband Richard has served with the Currency Creek CFS for over 10 years. He’s trained with these crews, responded to incidents with them, and knows the region like the back of his hand, as well as the level of preparation and skill they bring to protecting this region.
That matters when you’re seeking a peaceful escape but want the reassurance of professional emergency services nearby.
What You Need to Know
Rural South Australia takes fire preparation seriously. Which is why we maintain firebreaks and large green belts around our Merilli and Merilli1885, there alarm systems, fire pumps, generators and access to water for fire crews at all times. Throughout the year crews train and prepare. And when fire comes, the response is immediate and comprehensive.
As guests at Merilli1885, you’re protected by:
- Currency Creek CFS (10+ years of Richard’s service, a fire station just minutes from the property)
- Coordinated state-wide emergency response networks
- Aerial support capabilities
- Multiple emergency services working together
You get the peace and privacy of countryside accommodation with the safety net of one of Australia’s most experienced volunteer fire services.
The Peace You’re Looking For
You came here to disconnect, to experience heritage accommodation on a working farm, to have the coast seven minutes away and complete privacy in between.
Yesterday’s response proves you can have all of that knowing you’re in a community that takes safety seriously and responds when it counts.
The fire didn’t reach Merilli1885. The coordinated efforts of nearly 100 crews made sure of it.
That’s the community protecting the peace you came here to find.
